Milner out with injury, Andrew Robertson to make debut
James Milner will probably miss Saturday’s game against Hertha Berlin as he recovers from injury. Andrew Robertson is set to make his debut in his place.
After withdrawing late in the first half against Leicester in the Asia Trophy all eyes were on James Milner’s injury report. The news is largely positive.
Though he is still suffering discomfort – compounded by the flight home from Hong Kong – there is no long-term worry.
He has not officially been ruled out of Saturday’s game in Germany against Hertha Berlin. However the week of rehabilitation he faces makes it very unlikely he will be involved.
There is no point whatsoever risking players in preseason friendlies. He will certainly make the trip though as Liverpool have two more games in Germany in the Audi Cup.
All this will open the door for new signing Andrew Robertson to make his bow in a Liverpool shirt. The Scottish international is keen to impress Jurgen Klopp and beat out Milner for the left back starting role.
Klopp spoke about Robertson in today’s media briefing. Referring to his weakness in defensive one-on-ones he joked:
“That’s not a problem. I can’t teach him playing football because he is already good at that but I can teach him how to deal with one-on-ones because I could do that and I was a really bad footballer.
There is good reason to be excited about Andrew Robertson. He has a bunch of talent and Klopp is excited to develop him. If he can take on board the manager’s coaching and tactical instructions he will certainly be in contention for Liverpool against Watford on August 12th.
