Roberto Firmino’s Eye “Ok” after clash
with Jan Vertonghen.
Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino says he is "OK" after sustaining an eye injury during Saturday's 2-1 victory over Tottenham at Wembley.
The 26-year-old Brazilian came off after 74 minutes after a clash with Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen.
After the game, Reds’ boss Jurgen Klopp said of the injury, “We have to go again in three days, not long for recovery, pretty quick. I’m not sure, but maybe we have an injury with Roberto.
''I don’t know exactly at the moment, but it’s something with his eye. It was a free-kick for Tottenham, right? Funny. I haven’t seen it back, I only saw the situation from 60 yards away so I’ve no clue what exactly happened.
''But it’s something with the eye and for sure at the moment it’s not comfortable for him. But we will see.
A few hours after the final whistle, Firmino posted to his personal Instagram that the injury was, “just a scare, my eye is ok and so am I.”
So, the Reds can exhale ahead of their Champions’ League clash with Paris St. Germain on Tuesday night, when Kylian Mbappe and Neymar come to Anfield.
And according to a statement from the club released shortly after Firmino’s own, the striker underwent an exam at the hospital which “confirmed an abrasion of the eye” that would leave “no lasting damage.”
