LIVERPOOL boss Jurgen Klopp has no common sense in waiting until January to solve their defensive issues.
That is according to pundit and legendary Liverpool right-back Steve Nicol.

Klopp’s side have been heavily criticised this season for the amount and style of goals they have been conceding.

The German manager tried to sign Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk in the summer but Saints refused to sell.

Klopp had no Plan B to Van Dijk so failed to bring in another centre-back.

And Nicol says they should have had another option to the Dutchman because that would have been the “common sense” approach.

“That would be the rational, common sense thing to think,” he said on ESPN FC.

“Clearly Liverpool at this present time aren’t thinking rationally and don’t have an awful lot of common sense.

“If they think they can muddle through until maybe the January window when they think they can get Van Dijk, then they’re kidding themselves.

Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp should have signed a different defender to Van Dijk, says Nicol
“Quite frankly, right now, it looks to me as though by the January window, they will certainly have no chance of winning the Premier League.

“And we’ll probably be in and around that fourth spot and that’s all we are going to have to fight for this year.”

Van Dijk made his first Premier League appearance for Southampton since January in the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace last Saturday.

He could make his first start of the season when Manchester United visit St Mary's this coming Saturday (3pm).
