JAMES MILNER: WHAT DOES THE SEASON AHEAD LOOK LIKE FOR LIVERPOOL’S EXPERIENCED UTILITY MAN?
| Aug 3, 2017 |

It was a welcome change when it was announced that Liverpool‘s James Milner had been converted to a defender in this year’s game of Draft Fantasy Football as he would have finished as the fourth best in the position last season.

The Reds didn’t have the best defence, but they did manage to keep 12 clean sheets. Their style of play is going to be forward-thinking and their focus will be on scoring more than the opposition.

It would, therefore, be unwise to take a defender from the Reds based on clean sheet potential.

The makeshift left-back takes a share of the set pieces and all of the penalties, which adds to his value.

Last season, he scored seven goals and collected four assists. Across the campaign, he would have earned 189 points – an exceptional return for a defender.

He seems like a great option in Draft Fantasy Football based on his attacking potential, but there are doubts regarding his place in the first-team, especially considering the club’s summer activity.

Liverpool have signed Andy Robertson from Hull City, who is a natural left-back. The new signing may not start the season in the first team, but he is likely to replace Milner as the season progresses.

Jurgen Klopp will realise the importance of balance to the defence and he requires a natural left-footed player to play in the left-back position.

Although Milner could start well, his playing time is likely to decrease as the season progresses.

'The strenght of the team will deeply boils down to the experience of senior players like Milner, who has already won the league tittle with manchester city'.

liverpool mounting a serious title charge this season, the will have to keep more balance players regularly on the spotlight inorder to enhance effective push-up.

  1. No way, Milner wouldn't perform
    when on the spotlight.
