Steven Gerrard says Liverpool must keep Philippe Coutinho
That’s according to club legend Steven Gerrard who says the Brazilian is indispensable.

Coutinho scored his first goal of the season today in Liverpool’s 3-2 win over Leicester.

The Brazilian was heavily linked with a move to the Nou Camp during the transfer window.

But despite Coutinho’s desire to leave, Liverpool dug their heels in and refused to part with their prized asset.

Gerrard played with Coutinho towards the end of his Liverpool career and is keen for the midfield maestro to stay at the club.

“He produces moments of genius and he’s a world class footballer,” he said on BT Sport.

“Barcelona don’t come for you for that amount of money unless you’re world class.

“I’ve played with him, I’ve trained with him, I know what he’s all about.

“Steven Gerrard says Liverpool must keep Philippe Coutinho”
“Liverpool need to try and keep hold of him for as long as possible because with him in the team, when (Sadio) Mane comes back, we know Liverpool will score heavily and they will be one of the most exciting teams in the league.”

Gerrard was then pressed as to how Liverpool can keep Coutinho long-term and responded: “Pray!

“Listen, he’s South American, his dream is to go to Barcelona.

“I think the key in this situation is do Barcelona come back? Or are they upset that he hasn’t come?
“Liverpool will want to keep him for a long, long time, there’s no doubt about that.

“They love him. Possibly (it would be in the summer if Barcelona came back).”
