Mohamed Salah: 'It would be nice to go back to Rome.'

Former Roma winger Mohammed Salah relishes his never expected earlier return to Giallrossi following the pairing of his former team AS Roma with his current team Liverpool in the Champions League semi-final.

The draw was comfirmed today at Nyon, Switzerland, where the UEFA Champions League draw witnessed a face-off between Liverpool against AS Roma and Real Madrid against Bayern Munich.

In his interview ahead of the draw, Salah stated that he has been messaging his former teammates at  AS Roma, sending his congratulations after their historic win against FC Barcelona and qualification to the Champions League semi finals.

The 25-year-old mentioned that his friends at Italy wanted to avoid Liverpool in the semi finals, stating, “They’ve all said: ‘We don’t want to play against Liverpool.'”


The Egyptian spent two years with Il Giallrossi scoring 34 goals, before joining the Reds in a 5-year-deal for €42 million last summer.

On returning to Rome, Salah stated, “It would be nice to go back to Rome, it’s my old club. I love the fans there and they love me too. I still talk to most of the players there. We were very close to each other and we are good friends.”

He added, “Of course, I have happy memories. We played together for two years and were fighting together in all the games. We had a good time in the dressing room.”

However, after both teams progressing into the semi finals, there is one specific teammate Salah is looking forward to seeing again at the Italian club.

“Totti! He is amazing, unbelievable,” says Salah. “He has everything. I love him. I have a good relationship with him, he’s very nice.”

On whether Liverpool are capable of winning the Champions League, Salah said, “We can! we are in the semifinal. I always say that we take it step-by-step but we are in the semifinal, everything can happen.”

He added, “Everyone went into the quarterfinal with this emotion that we have to win, we can do it. Now with the semifinal, it’s two games to the last step.”

The first leg will be held at Anfield on either April 24 or 25 before the Premier League side travel to play the second leg at Stadio Olimpico on May 1 or 2.




On the other hand, the Premier League top scorer, discusses Golden Boot race, as the Egyptian is currently leading the race with four goals ahead of Tottenham’s Harry Kane.

The Spurs striker was awarded a controversy goal last week against stoke as he was adamant after the game that Eriksen’s cross touched his shoulder before hitting the net, decreasing the difference to four goals with Salah.

The decision was met with a surprise by the Egyptian who later tweeted, “Wooooooow really ?” reacting to the Premier League’s decision.

“Yeah, Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero, you know I said before they are strikers, ” said Salah. “They play number nine, I play as a winger more. So it’s easier for them because they’re always in front of the goal, but I play as a winger.

He added, “It’s a little bit more difficult because I have to give assists. I have to give the ball up, create the chances, but they’re number nines and it’s easier for them.”
