ROBERTSON IT WAS UNBELIEVABLE “THE KOP WERE SINGING MY NAME, IT GIVES YOU GOOSEBUMPS”
Andy Robertson spoke to LFCTV after an outstanding Liverpool performance saw the Reds become the first side to beat Manchester City in the league this season.
The 4-3 win against Pep Guardiola’s side is up there with Liverpool’s most impressive wins of the season and left-back Robertson was terrific throughout.
The Scotsman endured a difficult start to his career at Liverpool and appeared to be out of favour but, since Alberto Moreno’s injury, he has grabbed the opportunity with both hands and made the position his own.
Liverpool are now unbeaten in 18 games and in terrific form. Robertson, who had in form Sterling in his back pocket all game, had another brilliant performance today. After the game he spoke to LFCTV.
“It was a brilliant game – it was exactly what the Premier League’s all about – the second half they couldn’t handle us in the first 20/25 minutes.
“We’ve had a bit of a longer build up this week – City are so good at picking the pockets, it was all about half-spaces. Our plan was good, we did enough in the second half.”
Liverpool started the game superbly as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain struck from outside the area to put us 1-0 up in just the ninth minute.
Oxlade-Chamberlain and the rest of Liverpool’s attacking players were electric throughout, both on an off the ball.
Robertson: “The front-three were brilliant today. Sadio, Mo on the wings were great – Roberto starts it all off for us, he presses and we follow him!
“I’d like to see Gini and Emre’s stats after the game! They worked their socks off!”
Robertson’s good work was appreciated by the home crowd who even began singing his name in the second half.
“It was unbelievable – I’d won a couple of tackles and the Kop were signing my name, it gives you goosebumps. I can’t thank the fans enough for their support since day one. That is the best I’ve played in.
“The last two goals were sloppy on our part, but it was all about the three points today, whether it was 4-1 or 4-3 – we will look at it when it’s all calmed down and look at the analysis!
“We know on our day we can compete with anyone, and that’s what we will aim to do every week.”
