Jamie Carragher criticises Jurgen Klopp team selection after Man City loss

JURGEN KLOPP should have played Dejan Lovren against Manchester City today.
Klopp benched the Croatia international, claiming the defender wasn’t 100 per cent after a tough international break.
Liverpool went on to lose 5-0 against City today after Sadio Mane saw red against Pep Guardiola’s men.
And pundit Carragher says Klopp was wrong to drop Lovren, claiming defenders should be expected to play 40-50 games a season.
“I still go back to the decision at the start of the game,” Carragher said on Sky Sports.
“I know Lovren wasn’t 100 per cent the manager said before the game.
“But as a centre-back you have to be playing 40-50 games a season.
“You might be 100 per cent for half of them, you’ve just got to go out there and play”

“You might be 100 per cent for half of them, you’ve just got to go out there and play.
“It’s Manchester City away, you’ve got to play. I’m not saying it was Klavan’s fault that Liverpool did this but he’s not quite at the level of Lovren or (Joel) Matip.
“He’s below, that’s why he’s third choice. But it’s not a fight to get into the team really, you know who Liverpool’s first two centre-halves are.
“I still don’t agree with that decision at the start but Liverpool were poor second half.
“But if you asked any manager what team you don’t want to play down to 10 men, you’d say City, because they’ve got the players to destroy you and that’s what they did to Liverpool in the second half.”
