Virgil Van Djik: “We’re going to work our socks off and do everything possible to make it happen this season'' as the Defender returned to Melwood.

Virgil van Dijk vows to give everything to win a trophy for Liverpool.

Liverpool centre back Virgil Van Djik has been sanguine this season as he insisted, ''I can improve in any aspect of the game''. following his returned to Melwood training ground

The No 4 who joined from Southampton last January transfer is confident enough that his team can end their trophy drought this season.

The 27years old present in the heart of Jurgen Klopp defense has notably palliated the team defensive deficiencies over the second half of the season as the reach the Champions League final after over a decade.

Although they missed out on the biggest prize in club football after a 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in Kiev, going agonisingly close has just whetted the Dutchman's appetite for more next season and he is aiming to go one better as Liverpool look to end their trophy drought which now extends back over six years to the penalty shoot-out victory over second tier Cardiff City in the 2012 League Cup final.

“Like I said when I arrived, I want to achieve everything possible with this beautiful club. Van Dijk told Liverpoolfc.com

“We’re going to work our socks off and do everything possible to make it happen this season. We were very close to silverware but obviously not close enough.

“I can improve in any aspect of the game. At the moment, it’s getting back to full fitness, making sure I’m getting better and stronger than I was before. I will work every day and do everything possible and no doubt it will happen.”

Van Dijk's return to Melwood coincided with his 27th birthday and is was a double celebration with compatriot John Achterberg – born in Utrecht exactly 20 years before him less than a hour's drive from the centre-back's birthplace of Breda – turning 47.

“The presents were all the tests I needed to do today! It’s a bit strange to do all these things on your birthday but you can’t really complain,” said van Dijk.

“When anyone has a birthday everybody has to sing in their own language. It was nice, it was good to see and enjoy.”

He added: “If everything goes well, hopefully next weekend I’ll get my first minutes of the season. We’ll see.

“I’m just happy to be back and now we can get back to work. We have great games coming up and we’re going to work very hard. I’m looking forward to it.”
