Jurgen Klopp reveals what Mohamed Salah said about his injury after Manchester City win

Mohamed Salah told Jurgen Klopp that he was not concerned about his injury after Liverpool’s stunning Champions League victory against Manchester City.

Salah scored his 38th goal of the season to help Liverpool clinch a 3-0 win at Anfield but hobbled off in the second-half.

He was seen holding his groin before being assessed by the medical team and headed straight down the tunnel.

The 25-year-old later returned to sit with his teammates on the bench.

The Reds face Merseyside rivals Everton on Saturday, before travelling to the Etihad for the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday.

Asked whether Salah suffered a groin injury against City, Klopp told BT Sport: ‘I hope not… he said to me immediately after the game: “all fine, all good”.

‘I hope that’s the case, we need to wait and hope.’

The home side doubled their lead eight minutes later as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain thumped home a thunderous strike after Nicolas Otamendi had given the ball away. Sadio Mane completed a dream first-half performance for Liverpool as he latched onto Salah’s inviting cross and headed past Ederson for a 3-0 lead.

Pep Guardiola’s City, who can secure the Premier League title this weekend, improved after the break but failed to find a crucial away goal ahead of the return leg next Tuesday.

On his team’s performance, Klopp added: ‘The result was not expected but we need to play more football in the second leg. ‘It’s only half-time, good but nothing else.

''The first-half was brilliant, that’s how football should look. We knew of the qualities of City but knew our own qualities as well.''
