JURGEN KLOPP: LIVERPOOL WILL SPEND BIG IN THE SUMMER FOR TOP QUALITY.

Jurgen klopp has assured the red fans that the club is ready to spend big in the summer, and that it will only be on top quality that can fit in perfectly.

The Reds shattered their transfer record to buy Virgil van Dijk for £75million in January and the commanding Dutch defender has given them an instant return on their investment.

At the time Klopp branded the fee “not nice” but he says Liverpool won’t shy away from those kind of deals in future.

Midfielder Naby Keita will move to Anfield from RB Leipzig for around £58million this summer and Klopp will look to strengthen the squad further.

“This club will do what we have to do, the owners are ready for that,” Klopp said.

“That (Van Dijk) was the sign for it but it doesn’t mean we only spend in this category.

“We cannot say the exact numbers, I don’t even know them, but was it £40million for Mo Salah?

“I would say that’s decent money but now it looks like ‘what’s that?’. Everybody asks in Rome ‘how can you do that?’. That’s strange.

“When the player is the right player it is not important how expensive he was. He needs to fit in the team, that’s why we paid the price for Virgil.”

Prior to Klopp’s reign, there were times when Liverpool failed to splash the cash on elite level players who would undoubtedly have improved them.

However, the German coach says during his tenure he’s always had 100% backing. Liverpool did pull out of a deal for Shakhtar Donetsk striker Alex Teixeira two years ago when the asking price rocketed to £45million but it was Klopp who pulled the plug.

“We agreed all on that. It was not the club. It was not like they said ‘no, you can’t do that boss’. It has to be right,” Klopp added.

“You can’t say you want a player, they give you a number and you say ‘right, we will pay that’. That’s not how it should work.

“We all need to stay kind of serious, even if in other countries they try to solve their problems with the next big signing, then the next big signing.

“It still needs to be the mix of bringing in the new player and letting the group grow.

“If you always change four or five positions, it’s wrong. You don’t make the team better. You can make it better in the long term but in the long term nobody is waiting for it.

“It’s all about timing, doing the right thing at the right moment. If the player is the right player this club will pay big money. If it’s not the right player, if it’s not the value of the player in our minds, then you can’t pay it.”
