Sadio Mane is JEALOUS of Mohamed Salah - BBC Sport pundit Ian Wright

That’s the verdict of former Arsenal star and BBC Sport pundit Ian Wright, who’s jokingly blamed the Egyptian’s arrival on Merseyside for his team-mate’s form dropping off.

Mane lit up the Premier League after joining Liverpool in the summer of 2016, defying the critics that slammed the £30m-plus fee that Jurgen Klopp paid for him.

He’s not quite hit those heights this time around though and new Reds winger Salah has taken the plaudits in his place.

Wright has now offered his take on why Mane is not playing as well while discussing which of the so-called Fab Four is the best with journalist Rory Smith.

Smith said on BBC Radio 5 Live: "Funnily enough, I think Mane’s not playing especially well at the moment."

While laughing, Wright responded: "Do you think there’s a bit of jealousy in there, there’s a bit of jealousy in there, Rory, with Mo Salah?

"I’m just asking, I’m just asking.

"You know, he looks to me just a little bit perturbed it, you know what I mean.

"Mo Salah’s come in and, remember when Mane went to the Africa Cup of Nations and everyone went: ‘Oh, it’s over now. We can’t replace Mane.’?

"And now, they’ve got Salah, and he’s been on the bench."

Smith, who works for the New York Times, wasn’t a fan of Wright’s explanation though and revealed his own take to presenter Mark Chapman and fellow guest Alex Bruce.

"Is it more likely to be the exact opposite, Wrighty?" he replied.

"That teams are still so preoccupied with Mane that, in the early stage of the season, they’ve maybe not marked Salah quite as tightly, so Liverpool’s attack has done more down the right than down the left?"

Liverpool will be hoping Mane and Salah are both fit and firing when they take on Arsenal in the Premier League this Friday.
