Liverpool played better than rivals against Brighton - Georginio Wijnaldum

Georginio Wijnaldum played in central defence for Liverpool at Brighton. The Reds went into the game yesterday with a defensive crisis.

Neither Joe Gomez or Ragnar Klavan could start due to illness, while Joel Matip is out injured. As a result, Wijnaldum and Emre Can both featured in a back three alongside Dejan Lovren.

But despite the changes, Liverpool did what their rivals could not and smashed through Brighton.

''We have been working hard and trying to be more concentrated'' Georginio Wijnaldum
Elsewhere, Arsenal and Manchester City recorded just 2-0 victories, showing Liverpool did well to repeatedly break Brighton down.

“I’m really pleased because if you look at the games they have played in the Premier League against the bigger teams they didn’t concede that many goals,” Wijnaldum told Liverpool’s official website.

''We did well and we scored from almost all of the chances we created and that’s a good thing against a team that doesn’t concede a lot of goals.

''We have been working hard and trying to be more concentrated.

''If a team wants to beat us they have to do their best - not that we want to give them that [opportunity].''

Liverpool’s win moved them up to fourth in the table, with Klopp’s team now the third-highest scores.

Liverpool will be facing Sparta on Wednesday night champions league, then followed up with a Derby match on Premier league Super Sunday.
