Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Adam Lallana will be out for ‘a couple of months’ with an injury to his thigh. There has been no set time for recovery from the injury.
Jurgen Klopp announced Liverpool will be without Adam Lallana for “a couple of months” due to a thigh injury suffered in the preseason. Lallana suffered the injury in the final of the Audi Cup while playing Atletico Madrid on Wednesday in Munich.
Klopp was obviously disappointed by the bad news for Liverpool.
“This is certainly not news we would have wanted,” Klopp said, via Liverpool’s website. “Unfortunately, the damage is such that it will likely mean Adam is out for a couple of months not weeks, so I think we can pretty much rule him out of August and September. Beyond that we will monitor and wait and see. He is a boy with a world-class attitude to everything professionally and he has always come back in good time from injury setbacks since I have been here, so we will see.”
Adam Lallana faces 'a couple of months' out with injury.
This comes as a huge blow to the Reds, as Lallana has proven to be a vital piece of their midfield under Klopp. Lallana was a trusted piece of the squad for Klopp, making 31 appearances last season, with only four of them being off the bench, in the Premier League.
In his 31 appearances in the Premier League last season, Lallana scored eight goals and added seven assists to his name. His eight goals were good for fourth on the team, trailing only Roberto Firmino (11), Sadio Mane (13) and Philippe Coutinho (13). His seven assists were good to be tied for second on the squad with Coutinho and Firmino. The only player who had more assists last season was Georginio Wijnaldum, who had nine on the season.
Another area that Liverpool will be sad to see Lallana out of is for his defensive contribution. Lallana, while playing in an attacking midfield role, has made a name for himself to be involved defensively. This is showcased by his 1.6 completed tackles per 90 last season.
