''he’s a fantastic goalie'' Virgil van Dijk reveals the impact of Alisson on the Liverpool's defence as Reds win 2-0 at Crystal Palace.
World most expensive defender Virgil van Dijk produced an outstanding performance for the visitors at the heart of the Liverpool defence as the Reds beat Crystal Palace 2-0.
He was named Man of the Match and saluted his side's communication and teamwork after they kept Palace at bay and took all three points.
Speaking after the final whistle, he praised new Reds recruit Alisson following a strong showing and clean sheet.
On the impact of the Brazilian keeper, Van Dijk said: "It’s fantastic. You see how composed he is, the presence he has, he’s a fantastic goalie.
"We are all very happy to have him in the team, he’s a good character as well, I’m very happy with him."
The Dutchman added: "We knew it before the game, not many of the big teams have won here comfortably.
"You need to communicate with everyone, you need to make sure everyone is tight at the back, make sure we play the second balls. We know how direct Crystal Palace are, looking for Benteke and the other striker.
"It was always going to be hard but we were prepared for it, ready for the fight, and happy to get the three points. It’s all about adapting the style of play, and feeling comfortable at the back with the quality we have in the team.
"We have an amazing team, an amazing manager and we practice every day on how to get even better. Today, we showed a lot of good things and we need to be proud of ourselves today, it was a very tough game and I’m just very happy we won."
Van Dijk said the Reds only have one thing on their mind this season: silverware.
He said: "To win a trophy, obviously. We have to try to win everything and that’s the only mindset we need to have as Liverpool. It’s been a while. We don’t need to think too much ahead, we only started two games, two good wins, two good clean sheets.
"Hopefully we can build on this but hopefully it’s going to be a very long road, a very tough year but I’m looking forward to every bit of it."
On Monday Night Football tonight, Jamie Carragher hailed Van Dijk as the best defender in the Premier League and said he could go on to become a Liverpool great.
Reacting to the praise, Van Dijk said: "It’s always nice to hear those things but the only thing I can do is put my head down and play, win as much as possible, help the team, develop as a player and a human being as well."
