''Virgil Van Dijk is just a Rolls Royce of a central defender,'' - Stan Collymore as he admits the Dutch centre-half has proven him wrong.
In the past, Klopp defence have always been subjected to so many criticism before their big money signing of the dutch defender from Southampton in 2017 January transfer window.
But the story has now changed as the Netherlands international has being an integral part of Jurgen Klopp Scintillating team as his defensive abilities has raised eyebrow.
Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore has admitted that he didnt expected the 27-year-old presence to transform the Liverpool defensive line.
“Virgil Van Dijk is just a Rolls Royce of a central defender,” Collymore told the Daily Mirror.
“I didn’t think he would be that good. I remember Celtic fans saying a few years back by the time he had played only five or six games for Celtic that this guy will go on and is going to be one of the best defenders in the world.
“I spoke to him after the game on Saturday and said to him since he came to the club Liverpool have had the best defensive record and asked how much of that is down to him.
“He knows he can play at an elite level and he is starting to show it so that is another big green tick.
“He is much better than Dejan Lovern and Ragnar Klavan.
“He is the most effective centre-half Liverpool have had since Sami Hyypia and Jamie Carragher.”
Former Liverpool legend McManaman also beliefs that his presence have transform the Liverpool defensive line as he insists that they don't look panicky again with so many of them looking more solid and stable alongside of him.
“He’s been brilliant and the most important thing is he has made the other three or four players better as well,” says McManaman
''His communications skills are great, his organisation is excellent and they don’t look panicky any more.''
''They also look more secure aerially, which was a big concern earlier in the season.''
''Any time a cross came into the box, you were hiding behind your hands fearing the worse.''
''Dejan Lovren looks a better player alongside Van Dijk. The goalkeeper seems more secure and that is because they have confidence that they have a powerful defender controlling things who can deal with the danger.''
The Reds signed AS Monaco star Fabinho, RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita, Stoke City playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri and AS Roma’s Alisson in the summer.
