Liverpool attack ‘as good as anyone in Europe’, says Robbie Fowler

Tuesday 1 Aug 2017

The club legend was impressed with how Jurgen Klopp set his side up ahead of their pre-season friendly against Bayern Munich in the Audi Cup and praised Sadio Mane, Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and summer signing Mohamed Salah.

And the former Reds striker is convinced the forward line that is on show at the Allianz Arena is better than any other front four across the continent.

‘I think this Liverpool front four are as good as anyone in Europe at the minute,’ Fowler told ITV.

‘Firmino, his touch and movement is very good. Courtinho, I think we’ve spoken about many, many times over the last few years about just how good he is.

‘Mane’s pace and his trickery is superb but the one I’ve been impressed with this pre-season is Salah.

‘You know, he’s come to Liverpool and he just glides across the pitch – he’s so quick. Everything is effortless with him. He’s looked really good in pre-season so fingers crossed it’s a good night for him and a good start to the season.’

Paul Ince agreed with his former team-mate’s assessment and explained why Salah has improved Klopp’s attack.

Ince added: ‘I think the thing about that four – even though they’re set up like that, they’re not set up like that. They’re going to be rotating in different positions.

‘I agree with Robbie, I think Salah has been outstanding. At Roma he was fantastic, he scores all different types of goals but he seems to be the only one that wants to get in behind people.

Alberto Moreno hailed as Liverpool's 'new signing' after sublime display vs Bayern Munich
‘I think Firmino, Coutinho, even Lallana, who’s not starting today, want to come to the ball.

‘The games I’ve watched this season, he’s the one who gives them that extra dimension.’

Mane scored in the seventh minute against Bayern after being released through on goal by Firmino.
