News Updates

Striker Danny Ings has taken the decision to leave Liverpool this summer

Danny Ings wants to leave Liverpool this summer as he searches for more regular first-team action as he looks to reignite his career.

He arrived at Anfield a free transfer from Burnley in 2015, with Liverpool paying up to £8 million in compensation due to his age at the time of the move.

The Striker has just made 25 appearance for the Mersey side  in all competitions scoring 4 goals and and 1 assist as he has missed a majority of his games due to knee injuries that effectively left him sidelined for more than 85 games.

Ings is behind Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, who combined to score 91 goals last season, in the striking department, with 20-year-old Dominic Solanke having taken a place on the bench for the Champions League final.

Liverpool are not forcing Ings to move on and would be more than happy for him to remain at Anfield - he is a popular member of the squad whose attitude and approach has never been anything other than exemplary.

But Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool's manager, cannot provide any guarantees about giving Ings regular football next season and it is for that reason the 25-year-old will reluctantly look for another club during this window.

His determination to recapture full fitness has never waned and Ings made 14 appearances towards the end of last season and figured in the run to the Champions League final.

He has continued to attract interest from many clubs, though, and turned down offers in each of the last three transfer windows to leave - back in January, Stoke, West Ham and West Brom were all eager to sign him.

Ings still has two years remaining on his terms and he will back at Melwood next Monday when Liverpool's non-World Cup players, including new signings Fabinho and Naby Keita, report for pre-season. Their first friendly is the following Saturday against Chester City.

It is likely Ings will figure in that game but the intention is to find a new a club by the end of the window. Having won his sole England cap against Lithuania in October 2015, Ings wants to fight to get back into Gareth Southgate's plans.

Liverpool have taken a firm stance in recent seasons of extracting maximum value for outgoing transfers but Klopp's relationship with Ings means they will not place a value on him that would be off-putting to prospective buyers. It will make him an even more attractive proposition to clubs look for a striker.
