Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah Ready to challenge for the Golden Boot.
Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has said that he wants to beat Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane to this season's Premier League Golden Boot award.
The pair are currently the top scorers in the top flight of English football and were each on the scoresheet when their two teams met in an entertaining - yet rather controversial - 2-2 draw at Anfield last weekend.
Salah broke the deadlock as early as the third minute and then got on the scoresheet again in the first minute of second half injury time. That brace looked to not only have secured all three points for the Reds but had also moved him level with Kane on 21 goals.
However, after Erik Lamela was fouled by Virgil van Dijk in the penalty area, Kane - who has missed from 12 yards with the score at 1-1 - made no mistake from the spot to move out on his own as the leading scorer in the Premier League.
With 12 games still remaining of the league campaign the race for the Golden Boot award promises to be an interesting one - and one that Salah plans on coming out on top in.
"He is a great player, in the last two years he has already been the top scorer," the Egypt international told Marca. "Kane plays as a No.9 and has more chances to score goals than me.
"In my mind I want to win it, but we will see what happens.”
Spurs welcome Arsenal to Wembley in the not so small matter of the north London derby in today's early kick-off and the 24-year-old does have a very good scoring record in these clashes having scored six goals in six league games against the Gunners.
Meanwhile, Salah will have the chance to respond tomorrow afternoon when his Liverpool side face Southampton at St Mary's and the winger did find the net twice in the reverse meeting back in November.
