LIVERPOOL DON’T NEED TO BUY BIG NAME STRIKER - JURGEN KLOPP
Jurgen Klopp is confident Liverpool’s misfiring attackers will soon deliver the goods, insisting the club does not need to emulate its rivals and spend big on a striker.
The Reds have found the net just six times from 121 attempts over their last six games, squandering a host of golden opportunities last time out against Spartak Moscow.
With the likes of Harry Kane, Alvaro Morata and Romelu Lukaku in red-hot form for the Premier League heavyweights, some have suggested Liverpool need a clinical frontman.
Klopp says he did not consider snapping up a big-name striker over the summer and was keen to point out Daniel Sturridge’s goalscoring pedigree.
We have Daniel Sturridge. We all know about his potential. Now he’s fit, so hopefully we can use it and we have Dom Solanke for sure the biggest English talent in the number nine position.
That’s a fantastic situation. Morata is now really working and is a perfect fit, Lukaku is the perfect fit for Manchester United, Harry Kane is now scoring, Lacazette is doing well… we had other things we felt we needed to do first. For us, the market was not really there. We had no chance for Lukaku. That would have been an interesting move!
With the team carving out so many gilt-edged chances, Klopp believes it’s only a matter of time before the floodgates open.
You cannot buy just because you think you will not score enough. We have enough chances and we will score.
The ‘fab four’ of Philippe Coutinho, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino will be key to resolving the Reds’
present finishing woes and they’ll look to get back firing when Liverpool travel to Newcastle on Sunday.
