ANDY ROBERTSON BEMOANS BURNLEY DRAW AND SAYS ‘I DIDN’T THINK WE WERE GOOD ENOUGH TODAY’
Publish 16-09-2017 By YayoLiverpool full-back Andy Robertson believes the Reds were very unlucky at times in their 1-1 draw with Burnley but admits they could and should have performed better.
Robertson was given his second start of the season against the Clarets with Alberto Moreno given a rest but the Scotsman was unable to guide Liverpool to three points against a typically stubborn Burnley side.
The former Hull man says himself and his teammates were anticipating a tough afternoon from the start and is disappointed that the Reds were not able to secure all three points.
“From the start we knew it was going to be a frustrating afternoon. Burnley don’t change their game plan. We knew that.
“Their goalkeeper made some fantastic saves and we didn’t get the rub of the green but I didn’t think we were good enough today.”
The left-back was also unhappy with Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope, who he says should have been punished for time-wasting earlier on in the game. He has also revealed that Mohamed Salah is ‘adamant’ that Liverpool should have been awarded a penalty in the second half.
“Their goalkeeper should have been booked within the first 15 minutes for time wasting. But we can’t make excuses.
“Mo (Salah) is adamant that he should have had a penalty in the second half. The referee obviously didn’t see it.”
Robertson admits he was unhappy with the goal that Liverpool conceded and believes he could also have played better on a personal level.
“We did make a few good chances. We need to do more and put them under more pressure. Their goal could have been avoided.
“I could have had a few better moments. I got myself in some good positions in the first half but didn’t quite get found.
“It’s important we get back to winning ways. This whole week we’ll be focusing on that.”
