Sadio Mane admits there can be “no excuses” for Liverpool's disappointing start to the Premier League season.

An injury-time equaliser consigned Jurgen Klopp's side to a 3-3 draw at Watford on Saturday.

Mane netted the Reds' opener with a well-worked strike as the visitors demonstrated glimpses of their attacking intent.

But fingers were once again being pointed at Liverpool's defending with all three Watford goals avoidable.

“We’re disappointed because we deserved to win,” said Mane.

“We should have defended better in this kind of game, it’s always complicated with long balls. It’s the first game of the season and we’re going to try to work hard for the next games.

“No excuses – everybody is fit. We’re unlucky we didn’t get three points because we were looking for that, but the next game we’re going to be ready to get three points to make our fans happy.”

Liverpool fly to Germany tomorrow ahead of Tuesday's Champions League qualifying play-off first leg tie against Hoffenheim.

And Mane believes the short turnaround can work in the Reds' favour as they look to bounce back from their Vicarage Road frustration.

'If Jurgen Klopp does nothing about Liverpool's defence, Philippe Coutinho won't be the only one looking for an exit'

“Of course,” he said, speaking to liverpoolfc.com. "We are all professionals. This can happen in football. With all due respect to Watford, we should have won, we were the better team. But it’s football. We’ll accept it, forget it and try to be ready for the next game.”
