''I loved it'' – Jurgen Klopp praises Anfield warm reception for Loris Karius as the beat Torino 3-1 in Anfield.

It’s been a difficult few months for Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius, but the Reds faithful got right behind their player on Tuesday night.

The German shot-stopper was heavily criticised in the aftermath of Liverpool’s defeat to Real Madrid in last season’s Champions League final after his two costly blunders in Kiev.

Jurgen Klopp was full of praise for the Anfield support after their positive reception for Loris Karius during Liverpool’s 3-1 friendly win over Torino.

Karius replaced new first-choice goalkeeper Alisson midway through the second half on Tuesday night, for his first outing at the Reds’ stadium since the end of last season.

The 25-year-old endured a nightmare outing in the Champions League final in May, and has been guilty of committing more mistakes, one in particular against Tranmere standing out, while the Merseyside giants have since signed Alisson.

But while his position within the squad is in doubt, Karius was cheered from all corners of Anfield as he made his second-half cameo

And speaking after the game, Klopp explained that Anfield’s reception “helps everybody,” as a much-needed gesture of ongoing support for the under-fire German:

“I wasn’t surprised to be honest. As a human being I was hoping for it.

“I loved it. Is it possible for it to be different in a really hard world? We showed tonight a really nice face.

“It not only helps Loris but Alisson as well, this really special place.”

Karius could still depart the club in the coming days, with interest from the Bundesliga, but Klopp’s praise underlines the importance of approaching his mistakes from a human perspective.

Liverpool managed to record another comfortable win thanks to goals from Roberto Firmino, Daniel Sturridge and Georginio Wijnaldum, but the reception towards Karius, who has suffered a torrid few months, was by far the best moment of the game.
