Liverpool Mohamed Salah crowned PFA Player of the Year Award

Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah has been voted the Professional Footballers’ Association player of the year for the 2017-18 season.

Salah collected the award in the 45th edition of the ceremony, which was held on Sunday night at Grosvenor House in London, after securing the most votes [76%] from his fellow players. The award is voted for by the players from England’s 92 professional clubs in the Premier League and Football League.

He saw off competition from Manchester City trio David Silva, Kevin de Bruyne, and Leroy Sane as well as Tottenham striker Harry Kane and Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea.

Although De Bruyne has enjoyed a spectacular season, winning the Premier League with Manchester City and providing 15 assists in the competition, he couldn’t beat Salah to the most prestigious individual award in English football.

The Pharaoh took the English Premier League by storm this season, firing 31 goals – a record that stands as the best in English football since the Premier League was narrowed down to 38 games per season. He also leads the race for the Premier League’s Golden Boot, five goals ahead of second-placed Harry Kane.

The 25-year-old has bagged 41 goals in all competitions this season to become only the third player in Liverpool’s history to score more than 40 goals in one season after Ian Rush and Roger Hunt and with at least five games left in hand he might break the all-time record.

The Egypt international has also provided nine assists for the Reds in the league this season more than any player in his side. He already made Premier League history after he became the first player to win the Premier League Player of the Month three times in a season.

Along with his manager Jurgen Klopp, Salah hopes he could win the Champions League this season, which would increase his chances of beating Cristiano Ronaldo and Leonel Messi to the the Ballon d’Or by the end of the season.
